A devastating incident occurred on what locals now refer to as Black Sunday in the Badagry area of Lagos State. An 18-seater commercial bus, carrying a group of partygoers, met with a fatal accident, resulting in the loss of all passengers on board.

The driver of the bus and his motor boy also tragically lost their lives in the collision. Reports indicate that the passengers had hired the bus from Yaba, Lagos, with the intention of attending a group party in the Republic of Benin.

The accident took place around 9 a.m. near Age-Mowo, close to Mowo, along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. Taofiq Adebayo, a spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), confirmed the incident, stating that it involved a Mazda commercial bus and a truck loaded with sand.

According to an official from LASTMA, the driver of the commercial bus lost control while attempting to overtake the tipper truck ahead of him. The sudden encounter resulted in the tragic loss of 20 lives, including the 18 passengers and the bus driver, as well as his motor boy.

The remains of the victims have been transported to the morgue at Badagry General Hospital. The traffic authority extends its heartfelt condolences to the families affected by this heartbreaking accident.
