Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has formally submitted a letter to the State House of Assembly, requesting an extension of his medical leave. Acting on medical advice after his recovery, Akeredolu emphasized the importance of adequate rest. During his continued absence, his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will continue to serve as the acting governor.

The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, received the letter on behalf of the lawmakers and affirmed that Akeredolu’s decision adheres to the provisions of Section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). As per the letter, Lucky Aiyedatiwa will remain in the role of acting governor until a written declaration states otherwise.

In a previous letter dated June 5, 2023, Governor Akeredolu had initially informed the House of his intention to proceed on medical leave and had anticipated resuming his duties on July 6, 2023. However, based on the recommendation of his doctors, he has now extended his leave and entrusted the responsibilities to Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The Ondo State House of Assembly has acknowledged the Governor’s request for an extension of his medical leave and will continue to ensure the smooth functioning of the state’s governance in his absence.
