Muri Ajaka, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the Kogi governorship election, has found himself at the center of a growing controversy following his recent statements regarding the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Alhaji Usman Ododo, and his alleged political maneuvers.

During his appearance on Channels Television on Wednesday, Ajaka made claims that if Governor Yahaya Bello had given the APC ticket to an Okun man instead of Usman Ododo, who hails from Kogi Central like the governor, he would have supported and worked for the party. These remarks have triggered a wave of criticism, with many questioning Ajaka’s sincerity and accusing him of playing a game of political hide-and-seek.

Adding to the controversy, Hon Leke Abejide, the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Kogi governorship election, approached Ajaka with an offer for the deputy governor position. Ajaka declined the proposal, asserting that he would only accept the role if Abejide agreed to step aside and support him as the main candidate, with Abejide becoming his deputy. This move has further fueled allegations that Ajaka is prioritizing political power plays over genuine collaboration.

Critics argue that Ajaka’s actions indicate a calculated attempt to win favor with voters from the Kogi West region while allegedly promoting an “Igala agenda.” This perceived inconsistency has raised concerns about his commitment to representing the interests of all constituents in Kogi State.

As the Kogi governorship election draws near, the controversies surrounding Ajaka’s statements and political maneuvers have sparked heated debates among voters and political observers. The electorate expects transparency, consistency, and a focus on the overall welfare of Kogi State, rather than favoring specific regions or ethnic groups.

The voters’ ability to discern the sincerity of political candidates and their dedication to the state’s welfare is crucial. As the campaign intensifies, it remains to be seen how these developments will impact Ajaka’s standing in the eyes of the electorate and whether he will address the concerns raised regarding his alleged political gamesmanship.

Kogi State deserves leaders who prioritize unity, inclusivity, and progress, ensuring that the interests of all residents are well-represented and advanced. As the governorship election unfolds, the electorate eagerly awaits further insights into the political landscape and the candidates’ commitment to serving the state’s best interests.
