The suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, is facing a two-count charge filed by the federal government at the Federal High Court in Lagos. The charge alleges illegal possession of a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a license.

According to the charge sheet, the government asserts that Emefiele’s actions contravene Section 4 of the Firearms Act Cap F28 Laws of the Federation 2004 and are punishable under Section 27 (1b) of the same Act. Additionally, in the second count, Emefiele is accused of possessing 123 rounds of live ammunition (cartridges) without a license, which is contrary to Section 8 of the Firearms Act and punishable under Section 27 (1)(b)(il) of the same Act.

The case is currently awaiting assignment to a judge for further proceedings. Emefiele has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 10 for investigative reasons, as stated by the agency.
